Washed Ashore

Each hanging approx 150cm

The Washed Ashore group, is a set of five knitted columns containing fragments of ropes washed ashore during violent storms and collected from the beaches of Barbados.

Each of the hangings are suspended from sections of a recycled plastic ‘Slinky’ toy.

They have been untwisted and separated by colour before being knitted.

The tall column shapes resemble tornadoes, and the knots indicate the swirling maelstrom seas which washed the ropes ashore.

The knitted columns also contain lengths of wire that has been recycled from old washing machines, where the clothes are swirled around with a similar motion.
