An Arctic Summer

The wilderness of mountains, glaciers, sea and icebergs in Svalbard and Greenland is magical during the summer months.
The tundra vegetation was amazing, with flowers powering through the melting snow to reach maturity before winter set in again.
An Arctic Summer
The boulders, mosses, lichens and flowers formed a beautiful foreground in a haphazard and unkempt way.
The landscape was completed by the majestic mountains, ice and sea. I have represented my impressions of the landscape as a textile collage.
An Arctic Summer
This area of Svalbard and Greenland is only approachable by sea, so it seemed appropriate to present this textile collage of the area on a discarded ship’s canvas dodger.
The work is made from self-dyed, recycled fabrics, with hand and machine embroidery and quilting.
